Aromatherapy is a pleasant way to help with minor ailments, smelly rooms and to lift your mood. There are many ways to use aromatherapy oils, from placing a few drops in the bath to using an aromatherapy candle. One of the ways most hyped by air freshener companies is plug-in aromatherapy oil diffusers. They are certainly convenient, periodically spraying scent into the air in a fine mist. But are they a concern?
They're Flammable
Make no mistake – aromatherapy oils are flammable. They need to be carefully supervised. This means that they can't be near any heat source – including electric lights or radiators, which are normally plugged into the same outlet as a plug-in aromatherapy oil diffuser. You need to unplug this kind of aromatherapy oil diffuser before you leave the room or your home. You also need to let everyone in your home know that these oils are flammable.
They Can Break
Mass-made products in the first generation on the market tend to have glitches, whether they are software systems or aromatherapy oil diffusers. Some people have complained that their plug-in aromatherapy oil diffusers sprayed out all of the oil at once. Essential oils can stain fabrics and even eat through paint or furniture varnish.
Not only is this malfunction expensive, but in most cases can make you sick. Although a few drops of aromatherapy oil in the air is great, having a whole container released is too much. This is like spilling an entire bottle of perfume in one room of your home. The smell can give you headaches, trouble breathing and nausea.
They Have Small Parts
Plug-in aromatherapy oil diffusers are not recommended for homes that have small children or puppies. Both puppies and babies stick everything into their mouths. When the aromatherapy oil diffuser is all together, it’s too bid to be swallowed, but they come apart easily into small pieces which can be swallowed and choked on. Also, you should never ingest aromatherapy oil. It’s poisonous.
In Conclusion
Currently, plug-in aromatherapy oil diffusers pose far too many problems to be used with any degree of certainly. Perhaps in a few years when all of the design bugs are straightened out will they be safe and effective. If you do want to use aromatherapy, stick with using other methods of dispersing into the air, including oil burners, oil rings, candles, misters or mixing in with other products. Keep away of you are pregnant, have bad allergies or are epileptic.
