Don’t let the titles in the bookstore or online fool you. There is no one Alternative Medicine Encyclopedia that is universal. Unlike a Encyclopedia Britannica, which can report on mostly undisputed facts and figures, an alternative medicine does not contain enough universal elements for there to be a definitive alternative medicine encyclopedia.
The Book Of Shadows
In ancient times, village healers, shamans and witches wrote their own alternative medicine encyclopedias. They were called grimoires, Books of Shadows or botanicals. Some of the oldest written works in the world contain information on alternative medicine. For example, ancient Indian texts contain the Ayurveda system of alternative therapy.
Many of these books and the knowledge inside have been lost forever due to ignorance and fear. Many handwritten, painfully researched alternative medicine encyclopedias that could help us today were thought to be the Devil’s work, and therefore burnt or destroyed. Since the authors were also destroyed, the knowledge was kept silent or at least not written down for hundreds of years.
There is nothing stopping you from writing your own alternative health encyclopedia tailored to help you and your family. You need nothing more than your courage, a pen, a notebook…and time with various alternative therapies. You can write it all about your own experience, or copy sections from other books.
The Science Of Magic
Many alternative therapies have at one time or another been called magic. It has also been suggested that some alternative therapies act as a placebo on the patient. Some people are so picky. If it works, it works, for whatever reason!
Most importantly, does it work for you? Keep a journal of your experiences in any field of alternative therapy. That journal, over time, will become your alternative medicine encyclopedia.
You need to be thorough and honest. How did you feel after taking such and such or doing so and so? Were there any side effects? Long term affects? There is no right or wrong way to write your own alternative medicine encyclopedia. Write it in code if you are scared it might fall into embarrassing hands. But make sure you understand it.
Over the years, keeping an alternative medicine encyclopedia about you and your family will become not only a treasured heirloom, but a source of personal empowerment. One of the worst things about being ill is the feeling of helplessness that can come with the illness. You can calm those feelings by knowing there are always alternatives.
